What are biometrics?

Biometrics uses biology and its characteristics to identify individuals. Examples include fingerprints, facial mapping, voice and iris scans.  Research on the topic of biometrics came in three forms scholarly, primary and secondary. Scholarly evaluations contain an abstract, introduction, review and conclusion on the specific topic. The primary source discussed the mechanics of biometrics and related platforms to use certain aspects of biometrics in your daily life. The secondary source or nonacademic source discussed how biometric technology enhanced the effectiveness of their company.

  1. Technology has come so far indeed! Even just using my iPhone I got a facial recognition to open it. I have not had the opportunity to use the iris scanner yet but one day I might.

  2. Good job on finding a source for each of the three types of sources required by 1.5.7 Activity: Identify Sources and give your impression of each :-)

Thank you for listing some examples of biometrics ^_^

  6. Samsung S21 and S22 are using the ultrasonic for a fingerprint unlocks on the screen. As a result, their screen protectors are very expensive for the special ultrasonic function.

  7. Hello, it seems as if scholarly articles are composed in a well and sophisticated manner compared to primary and secondary sources. Scholarly articles also tend to be trustworthy as they are written by people who have profession in the study.

  8. One new interesting piece of technology related to biometrics is Biometric access control. Biometric access control uses the biological data of a person to permit entry to premises and specific areas of a building. Once installed, you will collect the biometric data from anyone you wish to be permitted by the biometric access control system. A database is then created consisting of the biological data of the people you wish to grant access. A database is then created consisting of the biological data of the people you wish to grant access. You can then customize this, allowing certain people to have access to specific areas of the building, even at certain times. For instance, if this technology was used within a bank, general staff would have access to the main areas, but only senior staff would be able to access the room containing the cash safe.

  10. Piggy backing off of Jan, I heard that a Personal Injury Attorney was kicked out of an event in Madison Square Garden because their biometric system was able to read her face during security check in. Because she is associated with the Personal Injury world, and Madison Square Garden was or is facing a lawsuit against them relating to Personal Injury, they have been able to prevent anyone from entering their building relating to that field. Biometrics is SCARY.

  11. Well as we are talking about biometric and all. All I want to add here is that what i have learned recently is that, if your iphone cracks the screen and you might have to change the LCD, there is a high chance that the phone might not be able to read your face again. Happens to a lot of phones but not all.
